Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is therapy, and how can it help me?
Therapy is a collaborative process with a trained mental health professional that provides a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, especially during times of relational distress, significant life changes, or loss. It can help you understand the dynamics of your relationships, navigate emotional challenges, and develop coping strategies that foster healing and resilience. Through therapy, you can gain insights into your experiences, learn to communicate more effectively, and work toward creating healthier connections with yourself and others.
  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy may be a good idea if you find yourself struggling to cope with challenges, feeling stuck, or wanting to improve your emotional well-being--and everything you've already tried has come up short. If you’re seeking to understand yourself better, enhance your communication skills, or work through difficult emotions, therapy can provide the support and tools you need. Ultimately, if you’re ready to explore your feelings and work toward personal growth, therapy may be the right step for you. If you’re still not sure, feel free to schedule a free 15 minute consult call and we’ll see if I can help.
  • What can I expect in an intake session?
In an individual or couples/family intake session, you’ll have the opportunity to share your unique concerns, goals, and experiences with your therapist. I will ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of your situation, including the relevant past and present contexts which shape it, and to help establish a foundation for our work together. The first session(s) often feels very structured and interview-esque, but I try to make it as collaborative and comfortable as possible. This allows me to get a comprehensive view of your strengths and challenges, and we use that to tailor the approach needed to meet your goals. By the end of the session, you can expect to have a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process and a sense of how we can partner together toward your goals.
  • How long does each session last, and how often will we meet?
Each therapy session typically lasts about 50 minutes with the exception of family/couple’s therapy intakes which are 80 minutes. The frequency of sessions can vary based on your needs and goals, but most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly, especially at the beginning of therapy. As we progress, we can adjust the schedule to fit your individual situation and preferences. The important thing is to find a rhythm that supports your journey toward healing and growth. We’ll discuss and decide together what feels best for you.
  • Can I have sessions via telehealth?
Yes, I offer telehealth sessions for most individuals, couples, and families. This flexible option allows you to connect from the comfort of your own space, making it easier to fit therapy into your schedule. Telehealth sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure your privacy and confidentiality. Whether you prefer in-person or virtual meetings, I’m here to provide the support you need in a way that works best for you.
  • What if I feel uncomfortable or not a good fit with you?
While of course I strive to ensure all individuals feel safe, comfortable, and able to bring their authentic selves into the therapy room with me, it's also completely normal to have concerns about the therapeutic relationship sometimes. The process of finding and choosing your therapist is a deeply personal one, and I will not take offense if I am not your person. If you ever feel uncomfortable or believe that we’re not a good fit, let’s talk about it! If it seems that a different approach, or even a different therapist might better suit your needs, we can explore those options, too. The goal is to ensure you feel supported and empowered on your journey, and I want you to find the right fit for your therapy–even if it is not with me.
  • Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not have contracts with insurance companies. However, you may still be able to use your insurance benefits to get reimbursed for our sessions. I can provide you with a superbill—an itemized statement of services rendered—that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. I recommend checking with your insurance company to understand your out-of-network benefits and any specific requirements they may have. Please see the “Documents and Resources” section for a robust guide to Out-of-Network therapy.
  • Are there any advantages to seeing an out-of-network provider?
Yes, there are several advantages to seeing an out-of-network provider. One of the main benefits is greater flexibility in choosing a therapist who aligns with your needs and preferences, allowing for a more personalized therapeutic experience. Out-of-network providers often have more freedom to tailor their services without insurance restrictions (such as length of appointments, frequency of care, modalities used, etc.). Using an OON provider allows a more customized approach to your care.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
In my practice, I accept credit and debit cards, including FSA and HSA cards, for your convenience. We require active clients to keep a card on file, which will be charged on the day of your appointment. We are a cashless and (mostly) paperless practice which helps to streamline our processes, maintain convenience for you, and help save some trees.
  • Do you offer any sliding scale options?
While I do not offer a sliding scale directly through my practice, I partner with Open Path Collective to provide limited spots for reduced-fee services. Open Path Collective offers access to affordable therapy for individuals and families who may be facing financial challenges. If you’re interested in this option, please refer to their website directly for more information. Your mental health is important, and I’m here to help you find the support you need.
